Cancel mobile subscription from Beijing abroad?

Hello, I did sign up for China Mobile and China Unicom subscription in Beijing on a China trip and knew I needed to cancel when I left China.
However, I did not know if had to be cancelled in person at the same region I signed up and as returned back home from another region I could not cancel them.

This must be a common problem, does anyone know if there is a way to cancel the subscriptions overseas?
