About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I am flying from the UK to Auckland via Beijing on the 12th of January (both flights with AIRCHINA).

I have a lay over of roughly 13 hours at Beijing. I have booked a tour of the great wall for as soon as I can once I get out of the airport and then I will be dropped back there before 9pm the same day. What option is the best for myself?...all information and advice will be fantastic and gratefully appreciated. Also I have been advised the time to get through customs in Beijing has now become longer and is approximately 4 hours as of late....is the about right or can we reduce this by filling in an application etc. before hand?
Thanks

The only way to save time at the border is to get a transit visa so you can use the ordinary lanes to clear immigration instead of the single dedicated lane. Otherwise there's nothing you can do to shorten the wait since there's no application to be filled out. Processing time is 3-5 minutes per person and there are usually dozens waiting.
