About:China Visa Application in UK

We are visiting Shanghai on 24th April 2018 on the MCS Splendida cruise ship,in port for one day.

We are at sea 2 days before and 2 days after the visit. We are sailing from Hong Kong and sailing to Tokyo from Shanghai
Do we need to apply for visas?

If so, you may be able to use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. No transit G type will be required then.
