Question

Just double checking: because I have a domestic flight from Beijing to Guangzhou on my way back to Cairns, I do NOT qualify for the 72 hour free transit. Is this correct? And which visa would be appropriate for this flight schedule? I have 9h35min transfer time in Beijing and 2h15min in Guangzhou. Thanks

My understand is that Amsterdam-Beijing-Guangzhou-Cairns is OK for 24 hours visa-free transit (it's definitely not OK for 72 hours). According to Timatic, transit including multiple stops within China is permitted at CAN only when the first transit point is Beijing (PEK). The total maximum transit time is 24 hours. But I would recommend you get to AMS early and be well-prepared just in case. Perhaps print the Timatic output (it's easily available online) in case you need to direct the check-in agent to the relevant line of text.
