About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

NZ, Guangzhou China to Chiang Mai

Hi I have a flight to Chiang Mai from New Zealand. I have an 2hr 40mins layover in Guangzhou China. Do I need to apply for a visa of any kind for the layover in China?
