I will be staying in Chengdu and plan to travel to Yibin.

is there a direct high speed train that goes there?

Sorry to tell you no bullet train is available.
You are suggested to take a bus there. The buses from Wukuaishi Bus Station leave at 10:30 and 15:30, taking about 3h 30 minutes and CNY84.

There is highspeed train station in Yibin and Changning，In yibin is Yin West railway station， and changning railway station.
