About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Beinjing (1day) -Shanghai and 4 day cruise

Flying into Beijing stay 24hrs take train to Shanghai get in a cruise for 4 day. Which free transit(s) 72 and or 144. Thank Happy Thanksgiving

You need a visa in advance. You cannot use visa-free transit to go to both Beijing and Shanghai, unless your total time in China is less than 24 hours.

What if we take a flight out of Beijing instead of a train to Shanghai? Departing out of Beijing by air satifies the 72 hr requirement?

No it doesn´t work when you fly to Shanghai as Shanghai is still a part of China and not a 3rd country.
It just works when your total transit in China is under 24h.
