Do I need to apply for transit visa in advance for my flight from SFO> KTM via Guangzhou

I'm flying from SFO to KTM and back with transit in GZ. On my return flight from KTM> SFO, my ticket says that it only has a single transit in GZ but the flight details online show a stop in Wuhan, not a transit but a stop. Do I need to apply for transit visa in advance before I fly for either of the routes?
I took this exact route with the same flight details (showing the single transit but a second stop in Wuhan) in March and did not require a visa in advance. Have the rules changed recently? Should I apply for a transit visa in advance before flying and if so should I get the single or double entry?

Well, as I know, you need to apply for a visa in that case, and it should be single entry.
