About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

US travelers from LA to Phuket and Phuket to LA

I have a layover of 12 hours in Shanghai from Phuket to LA do I need a visa to do a tour of Shanghai? would I need an entry permit for a layover of 2 hours heading to Phuket?

Hi, you are eligible for 24 hr direct transit in China in both directions. No need to apply for a visa to do a tour of Shanghai. But you should apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office when you arrive at the airport, then you can leave there to explore the city. Nice trip.
