15 hour layover-arriving and departing from PVG

hello, will arrive to shanghai airport at 5 am and i have a 15 hour layover there, until my fly that same day from the same airport at 8 pm to sydney.
can i exit the aiport?
i read something that i arrive at shanghai i have to leave from another close airport, is this true?

Where will you fly from? If you fly from Mexico to Shanghai, and then to Sydney. You are qualified for the 72 hours visa free. That is ok you fly out from the same airport in Shanghai. Hope it helps.

Yes. You can apply for the 72-hour visa free transit in Shanghai for both ways. Then you can exit the airport and have a short city trip during the layover.
