Hi, if you travel like UK-Shanghai-Japan-Hainan and Shanghai(9 days)-other country, and you have UK passport, you can enjoy free transit for the trip UK-Shanghai-Japan. You just need to apply for a single entry tourist L type for 9 days Hainan and Shanghai.
