Hanoi-HK-Shanghai (72 hrs free transit)-Brisbane (via Guangzhou, 6 hrs at the airport). Is that ok?

Hello everyone, and thank you to anyone that can help with this. I am stopping in China on my way to Australia. I'll fly Hanoi to Hk, then HK to Shanghai, where I would like to enjoy the 72-hrs free transit, before flying to Brisbane. Now, the latter has a stopover in Guangzhou (6hrs), can that be a problem for my free stop in Shanghai?

Oh, I see. You won't be able to use the 72 hour free transit because the 72 hour policy requires passengers to transit in one Chinese city only. Thus you need to apply for a transit G type in advance. :)

Thank you Beth. Sorry to ask, but are you absolutely sure? Because in Guangzhou I will not leave the airport even. Besides I will not have time to go to Rome (I'm Italian) and get any visa at all now. What can happen in Shanghai, any idea?

Beth is right. You cannot enjoy the visa free transit policy. A transit visa shall be needed.

Thanks a lot Mindy. Then I don't know what to do now cause I'm leaving Italy in 9 days. Do you think I can apply for this transit visa outside my country? Or in China when I arrive?

You are advised to apply for this transit visa in advance in your country.
