Hi, you are eligible for 24 hours direct transit at Shanghai, and just apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office inside the airport, then you can leave there to explore the city. No visa is required for that. Nice trip!

Are you sure I don't need to get a Transit G in case I go out of Airport to explore places and come back again at airport terminal to catch my connection Flight within 24 Hrs ??
I checked this with China Consulate here in Chicago and they told me that I should NEED a visa in case I go out of Airport.
Can you please any link or reference details if possible
CONFUSED :(

Thanks

You can make use of 24 hr direct transit in Shanghai, and no visa is required for that. You can refer to the article of 24-Hour Direct Transit in this website.
