About:China Railway Map

Would it be nearer to fly from Malaysia to Beijing and take high speed ride to Harbin

as compared to Shanghai to Harbin. If Beijing so do we catch the train from Tiananmen Square?

Beijing is much closer than Shanghai. By high speed rides, you would need to depart from Beijing Railway Station, the one in the city center or Beijing South Station. It depends on the ride you choose. You can check schedule in details online here.

You may also fly from Beijing Capital Airport to Harbin Taiping Airport, and it would be more convenient, b/c the railway from Beijing to Harbin will not be a real high-speed (350 km/h) one before 2019.
