About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24-hour direct transit for Spanish citizen

I a Spanish citizen flying Moscow-Beijing-Guangzhou-Melbourne on the same day and I do not hold any entry permit for China. Since I have a 2-stop transit in China (less than 6 hours in total) It would be enough for me to ask for a 24-hour direct transit at Beijing Pudong Airport. However, I cannot find "official" information about this modality of visa and I am worried that it might not exist or allow multiple stops. Could you please provide official sources to the description of the 24 h direct transit explained in travelchinaguide? Thank you very much in advance

Hi, you are not able to use the 24 hour direct transit because of your layover in Guangzhou. You are supposed to apply for a visa for that in advance.

This route is currently acceptable for 24 hours transit. The text from Timatic reads as follows:

Transit incl. multiple stops within China (People's Rep.) is permitted at Guangzhou (CAN) only when the first transit point is Beijing (PEK). The total maximum transit time is 24 hours.

So the proposed routing is compliant; however, a return flight of Melbourne-Guanghzou-Beijing-Moscow would not be.
