About:China Visa Exemption

Do I need a visa for shanghai if I do Chiang Mai-Hangzhou airport-Shanghai-Macau?

I am a Portuguese citizen studying in Macau and I want to travel from Thailand to Shanghai and then to Macau, do i need a chinese entry permit to do it ?

You don’t need it because you are eligible for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai if you travel like that. Nice trip!
