About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 visa free transit

I am an American citizen. I would like to fly into Shanghai, spend 48 hours and leave by Princess Cruise lines for a cruise. The cruise goes to Hong Kong. also the ship goes to Nagasaki, Japan, Busan South Korea, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Bangkok and Ko Samui, Thailand and ends in Singapore. My question is...is entering Hong Kong the same as reentering China...or not? As long as I stay less than 72 hours in Shanghai, does this itinerary qualify as free transit? Thank you for your help.

Hong Kong is a separate jurisdiction so it will not count as re-entering mainland China. Your itinerary is fine if you intend to fly directly to Shanghai from a third country other than Hong Kong.

Perfect! Thank you so much. Yes, I forgot to mention that I will be flying to Shanghai from the United States. So everything sounds good. Thanks for your time.
