About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Must it be direct fly to China from outside

For a 72-hours free transit in Shanghai. Is it mandatory that the flight to China (e.g. to Shanghai) from a qualified country is by direct fly.
If there is a flight change in e.g. Shenzhen on the way to Shanghai of a few hours (same ticket and not leaving the airport) just moving from one gate to another gate. Is that a legal way?

It must be directly from a third country or region, no exceptions. You'll need a visa because of your stop in Shenzhen which does not allow visa-free transit (an airport-specific policy).
