Hi I am a international student currently in Australia, and I am traveling with China Southern Airlines to Nepal and have 14.5 hours of transit in Guangzhou. Do I need a visa to be at the airport during my transit time?

You do not if you are not leaving the airport's sterile international departure area. Without a visa, however, you will not be allowed to leave the airport during your stopover.
