top places in Shanghai

If I was given a day or two to stay, what places should I prioritize? What are the top places to shop for souvenirs/gifts?

Well, you can pay a visit to the famous attractions first, like Yuyuan Garden, the Bund, and Nanjing Rd. And they are close to each other. After that, you can buy the gifts near Temple of the City God, which is near Yuyuan Garden.

This is great information! Considering these places are just near each other, where else could you suggest for us to go? We'd prefer a more traditional tour, seeing cultural heritage, local lifestyle, etc.

Also very interested in the water towns! Which is the closest to these areas?

Oh, to feel the local lifestyle, I recommend Xin Tian Di and Tian Zi Fang to you. And the Zhujiajiao Ancient Town can be a good place to go as well.
