About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2 distinct booking with 2 different airlines

Hi, do i qualify for the 72 hours free transit if i have 2 bookings with 2 different airlines ?
For example, can i fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou with an Airline A; stop in Guangzhou for 2 days; then fly to Hanoi with an Airline B. i understand that it is technically a transit but with 2 different single flight tickets.
Will the Airline A accept to board me without a visa and with a booking from Airline B for the following part of my journey?
Also, do you know if there will be any problem if the airlines are low cost companies?

Separate tickets and carriers are fine.

Hi Rob, thanks for your excellent replies - I've seen many of them with the same answers.

Like others, I want to take advantage of the 72 hour transit fee visa, and I meet all the criteria -length of stay, nationality, different outbound country to inbound country. However, like Vansi, I am also concerned it my ticket to China is booked on a different itinerary/ticket to my outbound ticket.

I have seen this article about 72-hour-visa-free-transit

Is there anywhere where you have seen, in writing, that different tickets/bookings are okay?

The author of the blog clearly did not waste a minute to verify this with Chinese immigration. Ever since the scheme was introduced in 2008 there has NEVER been a requirement to travel with the same airline or hold an interlined ticket. Earlier this year Qantas had to issue an apology to a Kiwi couple who were erroneously refused boarding because they did not hold an onward ticket with Qantas.
