About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Change flight in Beijing

I will stay two days in Hangzhou on my way back to Stockholm, traveling from Taipai. However, when flying home I need to change flights in Beijing before getting on a flight to Stockholm. Is the 144h still valid for me, I will not leave the airport in Beijing, just change flights.

If you don't have a visa, you can only stay for 24 hours in China (from your scheduled arrival in Hangzhou to your scheduled departure from Beijing). You are not eligible for 144 hours free transit.

Even though the flights is on the same ticket and with the same air provider and total time in Beiking is less then 2 hours?

If I change my ticket and fly to Hong Kong instead from Hangzhou, then I would be eligible? I get different answers everywhere I look, it's all a bit confusing this.

You are eligible if flying to HK since it's a separate jurisdiction and is treated like a third country by Chinese immigration.
