Gel batteries for wheelchairs.

My powered wheelchair uses 4 X batteries. A gel, sealed, not spill-able type, each 12V 20A. Can they fly? I have had conflicting experiences flying them. After disconnecting the power, taping the terminals and place them in extra plastic bags, some airlines required them to be carried by us into the cabin. Some loaded them in the cargo hold. Is there a universal answer? I've found no airline who has information about this type of battery.

Well, according to this question, you are advised to consult the airline staff. As I know, different airlines have different standards.
