2-1way tickets: US-PEK / PEK-HK-BKK in less than 72hrs

I am going Thailand via Beijing and a layover in HK.
As I couldn't find a flight with the same airline the way I wanted, I booked 2 tickets separately from 2 different airlines (Bauman and HK airlines)
So now I'm leaving US, staying in Beijing LESS than 72hrs, flying to Thailand with a 6 hours layover in HK.
Do I need a visa? Can the 1st airline in US stop me from getting in the airplane for not having an entry permit?

You do not. The Chinese officials just care about whether you are in transit, not your final destination.

You need to verbally inform the airline that you intend to use the 72-hour transit program and provide an outbound ticket.
