About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Visa required for 1day in China?

My husband and I fly into shanghai on 12th oct then board a royal caribbean cruise to Japan on 13th. We'll return to SH on 19th and fly to hong kong. We've filled in all the full visa paperwork but now think we might not need to. Please help

No, you don’t need to apply for the visa, since it’s qualified for 144-hour visa-free in your case.

Not exactly, you still need to inform the airlines when boarding, and fill a card on the flight, when you arrive at the airport, you can apply for the 144-hour stay permit.

I rang embassy and they said we needed visas :(
