Need to renew my residence permit

I need to renew my residence permit, how many visa pages do I need? I have one page, plus half another page (and some random spaces) for stamps. I renewed my passport in Guangzhou, but can't find my receipt and I am not sure if I can get my new passport now or apply for another in time.
