Immigration change blocking 24 hour free stay?

Hello, I am in Guangzhou and immigration is not letting me out of transit area even though I am here less than 24 hours. They also will not let me apply for anot her type to leave. Any idea as to new regulation/blocking of the 24 hour free transit rule? I am USA citizen with valid passport and confirmed seat on flight less than 24 hours from now

Dennis, as far as I know, there is no new regulation/blocking of the 24 hr rule. If you mean to leave the transiting area within the 24 hours, you need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office after arrival.

Thanks for reply. I talked with my friend in China and he found the regulation. As of 08/14/2017 you are no longer allowed to leave the airport/international transfer area unless your stop over is more than 24 hours. Big bummer for us because there is no notification from the big airliners or on any English website so it came as a big surprise... Traveling 1 week too late I guess -__-

So true! I booked a flight with CSA that has 23hrs layover in CAN, hoping to see Guangzhou city center before flying out of China. Then just this morning they told me that I can no longer leave Baiyun airport without a valid transit G obtained from my country (PH). So... i would either need to
1. Apply for a transit G here in MNL or
2. Change the connecting flight to get rid of the loooong layover

There's no airside hotel in Baiyun, so I'd die of boredom if i stay in the transit area for 23hrs :(
I haven't taken any actions yet, coz frankly speaking, i don't think an extra cost to see Guangzhou city for a few hours will be practical.
