About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

One-Day Visit

Hi,

I am an American citizen. I will be flying from LAX - PVG (Shanghai) arriving at 4:30 PM and then leaving the next day at 6:30 PM, flying back to LAX. Will I need a entry permit? From my understanding - this would be ok with the 72 hour rule, meaning I would not need a Visa since I will be in the country for less than 72 hours. Does this also apply when flying back to the country you came from?

Please advise. Trip is in a few months

You need a visa or you need to change your itinerary because you are obviously not in transit.

Ok - that's what I was curious about. It would all be on the same reservation. How hard is it to get a Visa just for the one day?

That's possible for you to get it within one working day as long as you can meet all requirements.
