can i mail my applicationpassport to lisbon chinese embassy?

I am a USA citizen traveling in Portugal and need my Chinese Visa, can I mail my passport and application to the embassy in Lisbon and pick it up in person, or do I need to be present when I submit my application>?Thanks

Clare, I'm afraid the mailed application is not accepted by the embassy, but you can find someone else to do that on your behalf if you cannot go there in person.
