About:Chinese Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago

Would I be able to use this passport to apply for a visa for this tour?

My T&T passport expires on March 5 2018. I am desirous of traveling to China and Hong Kong with an expected arrival of September 16, 2017.

Chandra, when applying for Chinese visa, your passport should have at least 6-month remaining validity. If you make the application now, it may be ok.
However, if possible, you’d better renew your passport first.
