About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 Hour direct transit at shanghai

I am a South African national in Thailand at the moment and want to book a flight to Shanghai, from Shanghai back to SA. Will I be able to get a 24 direct transit on arrival and be able to leave the transit area? As I need to pick up some of my luggage left behind a while ago and check them in for my flight back home. The Chinese embassy hasn't been helpful at all with answering my question, not sure they really understand what I'm asking.

Hi, Monique, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai, and you can leave the transit area. You will be required to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office when you arrive at the airport to pick up the luggage.
