Are web sites like Google and Yahoo blocked?

Are web sites like Google and Yahoo still blocked? If yes, what will be the best way to access my email while travelling?

Google and Gmail are not available in China, but the email address with @yahoo.com still work.

My experience was that in international hotels I could get a faster and efficient connection to the e-mail system by downloading Mozilla, otherwise it was almost impossible for me!
