About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Visa Free Travel

I am traveling from the US to Shanghai to board a cruise. The cruise then goes to Japan and never back to China. It is my understand I will not need a visa since I'm going to a 3rd country/region. Am I understanding this correctly?
