About:China Visa

I'm currently have X1 visa and it expires by the end of October

I'll marry my chinese girlfriend next week, is it possible to change my current X1 type to Q type within the mainland of China? If yes, when and where shall I apply? Beijing or her hometown?

Yes, it is possible. You can do that 7 days prior to the expiry date of your X1 type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB in her hometown.

Should I wait until the expiry of the X1 type? Because I'm not studying anymore in China, so can I change it now?
Also, what're the required documents to be given to the PSB?

No, you don’t need to wait till the expiry date of the X1 type. You can change it now. The required documents include your passport, a fully filled-out application form, a passport-style photo, valid registration form of temporary residence, an invitation letter from your wife and copy of her Chinese ID card, as well as your marriage certificate, and other documents the consular officers consider necessary.
