About:

We want to go to shilin (Stone Forest) from kunming.

We have heard that there are many options (bus, train, subway) but what is the best option?

Subway doesn't lead to the Stone Forest, but bus and train can be the choice. Personally, bus is recommended. There are many buses at East Bus Station leading to the Stone Forest directly. It shall take 1.5h or so.
