Taking express train is the most convenient way from Shanghai to Suzhou and the train ride only takes around half an hour.

Suzhou is famous for the exquisite gardens. The most visited gardens are Humble Administrator's Garden, Tiger Hill and the Lingering Garden. If you are interested in the classical gardens, you may visit these three places in one day. Or you can visit two of the gardens and then go to Suzhou Museum or Pingjiang Road in the afternoon. Besides, Guanqian Street is a good place to visit and taste the local snacks.

We are 5 persons, what more efficient between rental car or using high speed train to suzhou?

There are three rail transit lines in Suzhou currently. Shantang Street and Lingering Garden can be reached by Line 2. Other places like Tiger Hill can be visited via public buses. Taking taxi between these places are also very easy and inexpensive. You are suggested to check the map first as some of the places are within walking distance.

I have no idea on the exact price for car rental fee, but taking express train only costs CNY25-CNY40 per person. Moreover, it takes more than one hour to transfer from Shanghai to Suzhou by car, so train travel is more recommended.
