About:China Visa Exemption

For visa free transit, does the flight out of GZ need to be a direct flight to another country?

I have to fly from HK to GZ, and then my flight form GZ to Germany has an overnight stop in Shanghai. Is this possible with the free travel? Also, is GZ now 144 hour free transit, or only 72 hour?

Marie, you are not eligible for the 72 hour free transit in GZ because of your layover in Shanghai.
