If you like the standard high rise hotel, you would be best to stay in the night bazaar area. If you want a small guest house or boutique style hotel, then the old city has many options for you.

Let me tell you about my experience of staying Chiang Mai. I spent five days, there. I recommend you to stay in guesthouse, because of its cheapness, five thailand bats one night, air conditioned room, and safety security. Macdonald and Starbucks are located in the center of market area. You will enjoy Bhudist chapels and souvenirs all in walking distance. Cheap and good Chinese cuisines are located in the market area. Enjoy Chiang Mai as I did!
