About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

162 hours transit

there is something misleading here.
You write: "If one arrives at 6:00am on July 1, ... the passenger should have a ticket with the scheduled departure time before 23:59 of July 7."
meaning you could be granted a permit of 162 hours (161h59m).

From what I read on the website of the immigration office instead, I understand that the permit validity could be even 162 hours once issued, BUT you need to provide the immigration officer with a valid onward air ticket with confirmed date within 144 hours, in order to have it issued.

Can you please check and confirm?
If I show up in pudong at 6:00am on July 1 with a onward a ticket for 23:59 of July 7, will I really have guaranteed entry?

(note: I dont know the answer, and I would love your version to be true. I am just trying to understand what is the correct version)

Use some logic here. If the immigration really requires a passenger to hold an onward ticket departing within 144 hours, then the duration of stay would start from the day of arrival instead. But since the duration of stay starts from the next day of arrival, then there's gotta be some leeway regarding the departure time, since it wouldn't make sense to issue a permit valid for longer than six days while requiring them to depart within the six-day period.

I prefer not to use my logic when dealing with Chinese immigration, but rather look into real experience and facts. Have you actually tried landing in pudong with return ticket >144 hrs?

If you're so unsure, why don't you just call immigration instead of asking on a third party forum? Again, use some logic.
