About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

What if the passport is less than six months old?

What if the passport is less than six months old? My 18 year old son is planning on going to China this summer with his friend from China Who is studying in the US. He lost his old passport, which expired earlier this year anyway. We are rushing to get a passport now, but it definitely will not be six months old. Will he still be able to get a visa to visit in late July/early August?

Hi, Andrea, I'm afraid he cannot get a visa if the passport valid less than six months.

A passport will usually need to have six months of REMAINING VALIDITY, which counts back from the date of expiration, NOT date of issuance. Whether the passport is newly issued or not does not matter.

Agreed with John - your passport can be a day old if required. The passport must have 6 months remaining on it before expiration, not the other way around.
