Pickup Day for Visa

Hi, my boyfriend and I both turned in all paperwork in person for our tourist (L) types at the Chicago China Consulate today. We wee given pickup slips with a date next week that neither of us can take off work for--is it OK if we pick up our visas 3 days later than the stated pickup date on the slip? Is there any sort of penalty for this?
