apply tourist visa as an individual. do I need an invitation letter?

hi I am from sri lanka.
I need to apply tourist visa to china.
Do I need to have an invitation letter from someone.
I do not know anyone back in china though.
I can book my ticket hotels and etc.
Do I need an invitation letter after all??

Yes, Nuwan, the invitation letter from Chinese tourism bureau is necessary.
You can contact with a travel agency in China to see if they can provide you the invitation letter.
