24 hour or 72 hour transit

Hello we are planning on taking a bus overland from Vietnam to Hong kong and then flying to United states. Do we need to apply for a visa before coming to china ? We only plan to be in china for only one day

Teven, if you travel like Vietnam-HK-China(24 hours)-United States, no visa will be needed because you can enjoy 24 hour direct transit in China.
