About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Would I need to change my flight to a direct flight to enjoy 144 visa in Shanghai?

Hello :) I'm a Korean trying to make use of this new policy. I will be leaving Taiwan to Shanghai (transfer from hk) then to hongkong, and lastly back to Taiwan. Does transferring from honkong count as leaving from hk?

You mean you will travel like Taiwan-HK-Shanghai-HK-Taiwan? If yes, you won’t qualify for the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. Your stopover in HK will be counted as leaving from HK.
If you want to use the 144 hour free transit, you should travel like Taiwan-Shanghai-HK-Taiwan or Taiwan-HK-Shanghai -Taiwan.
