Original Birth Certificate

I need to apply for a S1 Visa, but only have a certified copy of my daughters birth certificate. It takes 6 months to obtain a new certificate in South Africa. Will I be allowed to use the certified copy instead. If not? How do I proceed now?

Usually, the certified document is valid for 6 months. If the certified copy of her birth certificate has expired, it cannot be used any more. Otherwise, it is ok.

Thank you so much. It is a relief to hear that. I cant get hold of anyone at our embassy as they dont answer the phone and cant drive there as it is 450 km away.
