About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I arrive BEIJING, CN (CAPITAL INTL), TERMINAL 3 on 04 MAY 13:05

and depart BEIJING, CN (CAPITAL INTL), TERMINAL 3 on 07 MAY 14:35

can this be done on a 72 hour free transit as it is 73 1/2 hours - does the visa run from 00:00 the morning after arrival?

thanks
Paul

You risk being denied boarding at your origin by your airline. It would be safer to either change your flight or get a visa. Beijing has a maximum transit time of 72 hours.

According to the Embassy: In Beijing, your 72 hours starts from midnight the following day. For instance, if you arrive at 13:15 on May 4, your 72 hours starts at 0:00 on the early morning of May 5, so you would be within your limit. You would have to explain this to the airline as mentioned.

But according to Timatic (which airlines refer to) Beijing doesn't start the 72 hours at 00:01 like most other cities, which is why there's a risk of being denied boarding. If you live near your departure airport then it might be worth going there a few days in advance to ask a check-in agent what they see on their screen and whether they would let you board..

Somebody actually called immigration back in December and confirmed the change of the rules.
