Travelling with my partner who works for an airline

Can I apply for the 72 hour visa if I am travelling with my partner who works for an airline. I would be flying to Shanghai from the UK and would depart back for the UK well before the 72 hour limit?

No, you cannot use 72 hour direct transit in Shanghai because it's not a transit at all.
