72-hour Free transit

I am traveling to Guangzhou.. what is he best way to utilize the 72 hour free transit when traveling from Chicago. I have waited to the last minute to get a visa??

If you want to have free transit, you should fly something like CHI-CAN-HKG-CHI, or CHI-HKG-CAN-CHI etc.
