About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi there, Our flight is ticketed as Hong Kong to Beijing, then Beijing to Auckland

so I believe that would qualify for the 72 hour visa free transit, however the Beijing to Auckland flight actually connects in Hong Kong. Does that then mean the flight is considered to be returning to Hong Kong and therefore doesn't qualify?
Thanks is advance.

You cannot use 72-hour free transit for HKG-PEK-HKG-AKL. You need a Chinese visa in advance.
