Beijing transit for Malaysian

I'm a Malaysian passport holder. I'm traveling from KUL to LAS (Las Vegas) with 8 hours layover in Beijing. I'm planning to visit my cousin because she lives 20 minutes from the airport. I noticed that Malaysia is not in the 51 countries listed to qualify for the 72 hour visa free. Can I get the 24 hour direct transit? How does that work?

Justin, you can get the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing. If you need to leave the airport, just apply for a temporary stay permit which is free of charge at the immigration officer inside the airport.
